U19 World Championships in Paris

We're immensely proud of Emily and Martha for representing a historically strong GB team at the U19 World Championships in Paris this month.

Martha raced in the bow seat of the W4- and won a brilliant silver medal, behind Italy, by the narrowest of margins.  GB's first medal in this highly competitive boat class since 2011, an incredible achievement.  Whilst still the youngest rower on the girls team, this was Martha's second time at worlds already, after her 8+ silver in Varese last year.

For Emily it was the first time on the GB team, sitting in the 7 seat of the W8+ (and coached by Hinksey's very own Bodo Schulenburg!).  A fairly inexperienced crew when it comes to international racing, Emily's 8+ was on a steep learning curve but produced a race for the ages in the A-final. Keeping the tempo high and staying in contention for 3rd for the majority of the race, they held their nerve and stormed past the leading Romanian and German crews in a gobsmaking sprint to the finish.  Gold for Emily - Hinksey's first world champion!  And what a memorable race it was - GB winning by 0.9 seconds, with the first four crews separated by a mere 0.24 seconds!
