Welfare Officers

The role of the Club Welfare Officer (CWO) is to support the club, and everyone affiliated with it, to create safe, inclusive environments and respond to concerns and disclosures. While the CWO is a safeguarding focal point, it is the responsibility of the committee, all members and visitors, to uphold our safeguarding policies and procedures in order to safeguard children and adults at risk.

The CWO has a key role in advising the club on developing a safeguarding culture in the club. They also act to ensure the policies set out by British Rowing and other guidance are considered and implemented by the Club to safeguard the membership, understand welfare information and make sure this is embedded in the Clubs processes for dealing with issues or concerns. They should keep up to date with the appropriate level of training. They report to the Board of Trustees.  Read a full description of the CWO role here

Jennifer Lamboll

Jennifer Lamboll joined as Welfare Officer in January 2026. She is a parent to two former Hinksey athletes who finished at the club after A levels to embark on their university journeys. Rowing took over the Lamboll household for 6 years and they thoroughly embraced and enjoyed the whole experience. Sitting in the rain on a camping chair at Dorney Lake for a good 10 hours is a testimony of their love of the sport!

With one son graduated and one son away, and still rowing at university, Jennifer finds herself with an empty diary and a want to assist H.S.S in any way possible.  She is a Supervisor at the Thames Valley Police Contact Management Centre & has been a TVP employee for 35 years. Spare time activities involve baking, yoga & volunteering at a Family Contact Centre.

Tristan Gillet

Tristan was a rower with Hinksey between 14 and 18 years old.  At that time he went by the first name Adam, but since starting university he has switched to his middle/family name of Tristan. His years at Hinksey were filled with fun and he made friendships that will be lifelong.  He spent his final year as the club captain, before spending his gap year with Hinksey as a coach.

Now at Reading University, Tristan became the Boat Club's Welfare Officer in September 2025, and has since been nominated for a British Rowing welfare and inclusion award! He has already learnt a lot about the role, particularly in communications and being the point of contact for athlete wellbeing in a sport where lots of variables are constantly being juggled.  He is looking forward to bringing that experience back to Hinksey, a Club which has been such a bit part of his life, and where he hopes to be able to lend an ear, and help keep Hinksey fun and safe.
