Head Coach - James McAnallen (Jimmy)
My rowing journey began back in 2009 at Petone Rowing Club in Wellington, New Zealand. What started as a passion quickly turned into a pursuit of excellence. I earned a spot at one of Rowing New Zealand’s regional performance centres in 2013 and went on to represent my country at the U21 Trans-Tasman competition as a sculler in 2014. In 2016, I raced at the U23 World Championships in Rotterdam in the men’s four, where we proudly brought home a bronze medal.
I moved to Ireland in 2019 to row with the national team before joining Hinksey in Oxford as an Assistant Coach in early 2020. Later that year, I stepped into the role of Head Coach.

My Coaching Ethos
I strive to create a culture where athletes focus on improving themselves and supporting those around them. Discipline is key, but I believe success isn’t defined by race results, it’s measured by the progress from where you started to where you are now.
