Here’s an idea that might make Hinksey Sculling School a modest but growing income and simultaneously save you money.
As many of you already know, Hinksey is a registered charity that relies on member fees to fund most of its day-to-day coaching activities. In fact all our fee income is disbursed to pay the full time staff, pay for insurance and other administrative costs. However this income stream is not sufficient to fund our longer term needs as we grow.
We urgently need to acquire a mini-bus so that teams can be transported safely to and from events and a second vehicle for safely towing the boat trailer. At the moment these items are well out of our reach.
So we’ve been thinking of new ways to generate money. We’re aware that parents already contribute a great deal to Hinksey so are keen to find income streams without constantly asking current parents to directly contribute.
One idea that we had was to become a Community Fundraiser for Utility Warehouse. This isn’t as wacky as it may sound….
As some of you may know, UW regularly comes top in Which? Magazine’s research of energy prices and service. The company provides services such as gas, electric, phone, broadband and mobile phone all at low prices.
So, after asking a sample of the membership, Hinksey has made the decision to become a Community Fundraiser and througjh this page we have provided a click-through link to the UW service. For every household that then converts any services to UW, the company makes a donation to HSS plus up to 5% of every monthly spend that household makes, direct to HSS.
It appears to us that; for very little effort, we can generate a modest but growing income, without having to ask for direct donations from past athletes or current parents.
You could save money on all these services and simultaneously benefit HSS – we both win.

With a few exceptions in their range of sevices there are no contracts to be entered into so a change away can be made at any point - intersting intself.
