Activities

HSS provides training for athletes wishing to learn how to SCULL & ROW on the WATER.

Basic Sculling Training takes place on Hinksey Lake in Hinksey Park.

Advanced training takes place at the Boathouse of St Edwards School at Godstow.

Before allowing "would-be" athletes onto the water, we conduct a swimming test and basic skill exercises in a swimming pool - currently the location for this is Radley College Sports Centre.

Having "passed" the various pool activities the process of providing each athlete with the required skills begins.

Before learning to ROW, it is HSS Club policy to provide all athletes with the skill of single SCULLING. It is HSS's view that until the athlete has learned to single scull his/her ability to reach his/her full potential in the sport is severely diminished.

The ARA (Amateur Rowing Association) has made a rule that sweep-oared competition shall not be available to Boys until they become J15 and Girls until they become J16.
